CoronaThe awareness of electrical engineers to corona and arching effects has grown in the last few years and is now backed up by a world wide research program.Here at Irish Helicopters we offer the Polytech gyro-stabilized corona camera system, the only one of it's kind in Ireland or the UK. This amazing camera system uses an ultra-violet image sensor coupled with a colour video camera to see corona discharge even in full sun light. Thanks to it's ability to convert from a gyro-stabilized helicopter mount to portable hand held use, it truly has the ability to reach the parts that other systems can't reach, allowing for use in confined areas such as tunnels or indoors. The system has many practical applications including power lines, research, pole fire, tram and electric trains. The system is used and operated by our own highly trained staff. Our camera system is regularly used on power line patrols, allowing engineers to see points of discharge on the power lines and preventing faults from developing into failures. The system has been successful on 11kV through to 400kV lines, we have also demonstrated great success on railway overhead lines. All data is delivered on edited, indexed DVD video with fault analysis and GPS location.
